Megan + Stanleys Belle Isle Engagement Session - Richmond, VA
I’ve known Megan for quite some time now, through a mutual friend of ours. She’s got a creative edge and is always fun to be around, so when she reached out about her wedding, I immediately knew I wanted to photograph it!
There’s always something extra special about working with people I already know. And while it is impossible for me to only photograph couples I know, I think that is a big factor in why I approach weddings in such a personal way. I want my couples to feel so at ease that it feels as if I’m just an old friend tagging along, and this session truly embodied that.
Megan + Stanley brought their pups along for the session which, if you know me, had me super excited! Reason 1 being that I love dogs (I have 2 myself), but another big reason why I loved that they included their dogs is because their pups are part of their lives. They are part of how they interact and they are super special to Megan + Stanley.
I’m a firm believer that your engagement session should reflect who you guys are as a couple more than just being beautiful photos of you posing (even though we will do some of those too). So incorporating their pets into their session really highlighted them in a unique way.
Ok, quick stop here for some ring appreciation. I myself have a non-traditional engagement and wedding band, so I am a sucker for unique rings. And this ring is truly breathtaking.
I’ve used this space a few times for engagement sessions, but I will literally never get tired of the lines and geometric shapes mixed with greenery. Seriously one of my favorite spots in the Richmond.
We did this session close to Halloween, and Megan + Stanley totally humored my request for a “children of the corn” styled photo. While not everyones cup of tea, I personally love this shot. Big shout out to all of my couples who have endured similar odd requests from me over the years!
We also attempted the lift from Dirty Dancing (this one was actually Megans idea!). It didn’t go as planned, but it resulted in a lot of laughs and some good stories.
