Allie + Ryan's Intimate Richmond Microwedding

If you’ve ever met me, you know intimate and microweddings are my JAM. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy photographing large celebrations as well, but I have a serious soft spot for small scale weddings. They feel so personal and as a wedding vendor, you really do feel more like a guest than a vendor.

Now this microwedding was even more special, because I just happened to know Allie for most of my life. I spent a good portion of my childhood and teenage years at her house. So when she mentioned that she was planning her wedding and wanted me to photograph it, there was no question. I was THERE.

I caught up with Allie + Ryan about 20 minutes before the ceremony started. Their furry, four legged best man was already in tow.

We spent the first little bit of time taking some portraits around where their ceremony would be (The Oregon Hill River Overlook). The beauty about this space is you have the skyline in the background, the river down the street, and lots of little grassy areas to give you diverse photo options.

Once we saw guests beginning to arrive at the ceremony site, we started to make our way down that way.

Being in the healthcare field, Allie was very covid conscious with her wedding. She and Ryan invited the people most important to them, opted for an outdoor ceremony, and (as you’ll see in the photos) had guests spaced out within the park.

After the ceremony, we grabbed the traditional family portraits and then spent a little more time on portraits of Allie + Ryan. I’m so glad they opted to do portraits both before and after the ceremony, because while pre-ceremony has all of the anticipation and excitement, post-ceremony has everyone loosened up and celebratory!
