What To Bring Your Photographer To Get The BEST Detail Shots

I was on Facebook the other day when I came across a post from someone talking about how sad their detail shots looked. They said it wasn’t their photographers fault, because they hadn’t brought much to work with, but the comments really got my brain going. A lot of photographers chimed in (myself included) about how common it is and to not sweat it. Simple is still beautiful! But then came comments from other past couples who said they had just wished they knew what to bring to have gorgeous detail shots to include into their wedding albums. Thus the inspiration for this post was born!

So what DOES create a good detail shot? Well for me personally, I focus on telling the story of the day ahead and the people involved. So I focus heavily on the finishing touches that each person wears, sentimental or culturally significant jewelry/photos/gifts, and anything that might ties in to the couples personality. The below list is by no means exhaustive, but if you are looking for a good place to start or just need to outsource the task, feel free to just save my sample list!

I even left you some space under extras to get creative and add your own items to the list! At the end of the day, though, details are only as important as they are to you. I have some couples who don’t want any detail shots at all and some who want every item documented. Regardless of which camp you fall into (or if you’re somewhere in between), if you work with me I will be available to answer any questions you have and help guide you through the process!
